Established in 2019, Small State Provisions began as a passion-driven home bakery, evolving into a vibrant community hub focused on organic, handcrafted bread. Inspired by family traditions, founder and head baker Kevin Masse's journey started with a simple goal: to share the joy of freshly baked organic sourdough bread with the community.
From humble beginnings, we've expanded into a thriving community-focused bakery with locations in Avon and West Hartford, CT. Our success reflects our dedication to crafting artisanal bread and pastries using organic ingredients and traditional methods, infused with heartfelt care.
Small State, Big Taste
Kevin Masse's culinary aspirations blossomed alongside a decade-long career in marketing and brand strategy. From baking with his grandmother as a child to mastering his skills in the home kitchen as a young adult, cooking and baking have been integral to Kevin's life. After relocating from New York City to the Hartford area with his husband Michael, a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at Trinity College, Kevin secured one of West Hartford's first cottage food licenses. What began as a side hustle has grown into the beloved Small State Provisions.
With a steadfast commitment to sourcing the finest quality (organic whenever possible) ingredients and a deep appreciation for time-honored methods and craftsmanship, Small State Provisions has become community pillar and destination bakery in the greater Hartford area.
